There are numerous options when it comes to moving your apartment, house or an office. Based on your health, energy level, free time and budget, you can always find a way that works best in your particular situation.
1. Full-Service Moves: if you have an extremely busy schedule, do not have enough energy or simply do not feel like going through all or any hassles associated with relocation, full-service moving option sounds like the best solution for you: you call the movers; they come fully prepared with all the packing supplies; pack up your belongings; protect your furniture; load up their truck; transport everything to your new residence; unload everything there; unpack and reassemble your furniture, if you so desire.
This is the easiest (provided you do your homework and find a reputable moving company), but definitely the most expensive relocation option. Of course, if your time is more valuable than saving several hundred dollars, this is a route to go.
2. You Pack, They Move: this option is perfect for individuals who are interested in saving several hundred dollars and are ready to invest some of their time to bring down the cost of their move.
In this scenario, you would get your own moving boxes, tape and bubble wrap, and box up all the smaller items: clothes, dishes, books, CDs, DVDs, and similar items, and perhaps disassemble the pieces of furniture which are obvious not to fit through the doorway, or will be extremely difficult or impossible to maneuver through the stairs.
The movers would professionally pack your furniture, such as tables, desks, couches, beds and mattresses, load everything into their truck, transport to your destination, and unload everything there.
90% of household goods moves are done this way: people pack up their smaller belongings, and let the movers take care of the furniture and other larger items. This is a compromise between a full-service move and do-it-yourself moves, and the price falls right in between the two.
3. Rent a Truck: you rent a moving truck, pack your belongings, and let the movers do the rest: load and unload. Depending on your budget, you can choose a level of mover’s involvement in packing, disassembly of furniture, and reassembly of it. The more services you request, the higher the bill is likely to be. Also, keep in mind that in many cases the cost of renting a truck and having movers to help you move can be almost as costly as having them bring their own moving truck. Therefore, if you choose this option, make sure you do as much as you can yourself, such as packing, disassembling your beds, sectionals and similar items, or otherwise, instead of saving, you will get yourself into a hassle of finding, picking up, driving around town and returning a moving truck and not being able to save any money. If you still want the movers to do the majority of packing and other similar work, it will probably be to the best of your interest and wallet to go with option 2, and request that your moving company brings their own truck.
These are the main moving options you have on your move day: have a full-service move, order movers with a truck, or rent your own truck. As mentioned earlier, most of people choose to pack their smaller possessions and hire a moving company to load, transport and unload their belongings. Whichever option you choose on your move day, remember: work smart, not hard.
